"H.M.S. Pinafore"
or "The Lass That Loved a Sailor"
Music by Arthur Sullivan and Book by W.S. Gilbert
A Production by Wildwood Park for the Performing Arts in Little Rock, Arkansas
October 2006    Four Performances
Sponsored by the H.S. Village Concerts Association

This was the fourth collaboration between Gilbert & Sullivan and it was their first blockbuster hit.  It opened May 28, 1878 at the Opera Comique and ran for 571 performances.

Pinafore is so popular because of its infectious melodies and well-constructed libretto. The opera's gentle satire reprises and builds upon one of The Sorcerer's themes: love between members of different social classes.
